My parents always pushed my brother and me to voice our opinions while growing up. This wasn't always easy, especially living in a dominantly Caucasian neighborhood with no Vietnamese friends who shared a similar background. Since coming to college, I've had the privilege of meeting many Vietnamese people that resonate with my upbringing. Being a part of both communities has taught me the importance of sharing new ideas and belonging to a community. This video shares my upbringing as a Vietnamese-American and how I found my voice among a community to champion our Viet culture.
I wouldn't be the person I am today without my family, and I'll always be grateful for our close relationships and the way my parents have taught me to share my heritage.
