The design of Our Journeys is inspired by the interviews and content generated by the Vietnamese Boat People podcast and programs. It is developed around the core concept that a story passed down is a gift—something given to another with intention and without obligation. For a community whose stories have often been told by others, this traveling exhibit seeks to forefront the Vietnamese diaspora as narrators of our own story and as it travels, to educate broader audiences on the Vietnamese diaspora experience. As a touring exhibit, it is a traveling portal to, and catalyst for, community-building and dialogue. Regardless of one’s background, “Our Journeys” centers the visitor experience on our common humanity.
Our Journeys is made possible with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, the Asian Women Giving Circle, and many private donors. Visit the Wall of Hope to view the full list.

The Experience
Through a carefully selected collection of written stories, multimedia presentations, photographs, location tags, and video essays, visitors will be immersed in an experience that captures the resilience and legacy of the Vietnamese community.

THE EXHIBITION IS THOUGHTFULLY CURATED AROUND THREE CENTRAL THEMES
Endurance and Flight
Despite enduring such oppressive conditions, the stories highlight the unbroken spirit of hope among the Vietnamese people.
Adaptation and Identity
Through personal stories and family artifacts, we explore how refugees and their descendants endured displacement, navigated cultural conflict, and reclaimed their narratives.
Intergenerational Impact and Moving Forward
By sharing our stories, we honor the past, foster healing, and create a bridge for future generations. Visitors are invited to trace their journeys on a collective map and reflect through interactive prompts.
USA Tour
This is a momentous opportunity to reflect on our collective journeys and the strength that has shaped our community over the past 50 years. After its debut in New York, the exhibition will travel to other cities, inviting more people to engage with these deeply personal narratives and ensuring that the Vietnamese experience is recognized as a vital part of the Asian American story.
