Ngay Ve Cua Bo by Huong and Karin Hanh Nguyen Huong and Karin Nguyen are the oldest sisters of four siblings that host the podcast Growing up Nguyen. With their siblings, they discuss cultural identity— both the blessings and challenges that come with being Vietnamese American. With two seasons under their belt, they all look forward to season three with stories tracing the oldest sister syndrome, our Ông Nội’s infamous cheekbones, and recording our signature harmonious laugh track. When not chatting with their siblings, Huong is a Human Resources Lead at an independent living center and Karin works in electrical safety for Californians. It's Never Just By Qui-Sawn Tran Qui-Shawn Tran (pronounced KEY-Shawn), performs original spoken word poetry and creates audiovisual content. As a 3rd year student at UC San Diego studying Interdisciplinary Computing, Music, and Technology, he’s made music, poetry, and YouTube Videos about his first-generation, Asian-American college experience. In his live performances for UCSD's Department of Music, TEDx, and Alumni Association, he shares his lived experiences and ambition to contribute to the Asian-American community. In 2020, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to raise $1,500 for the East West Players, a Los Angeles based Asian-American theater. In 2022, his artistic journey continues through performances for the StopAAPIHate movement and the Creative Arts Fellowship at UC San Diego. It Was Time to Reconnect by Alexander Nguyen Alexander Nguyen was born and raised in East San Jose. He is the son of a mother who was a teacher in Vietnam and a father who was a Vietnam War veteran. He comes from a legacy of community activists and educators from the Bay Area. He is passionate about learning with and from youth, learning about Chicana/o and Vietnamese life experiences and history, and bridging the Vietnamese and Mexican communities in East San Jose. Things Hidden by Trinh Mai Trinh Mai is a California-based visual artist who works with a breath of natural, traditional, and inherited media that hold histories of their own. Her current work confronts the fear, injustice, and devastation that has harrowed our communities and our refugee and immigrant families, then and now. Seeking hope within humanity’s consistent struggle in war and hardship, Trinh has worked with numerous humanitarian organizations, including the Friends of Huế Foundation Children's Shelter in Việt Nam and Angkor Hospital for Children in Cambodia, also partnering with the International Rescue Committee to develop creative projects with refugee children. She received the Walker-Ames Fellowship from the University of Washington in 2019, and currently serves as Professional Artist Fellow for the City of Long Beach.
